February Greetings to all of you in my TRUSTED FRIENDS network. If you are new to the group you are not aware that I send out a greeting for the month to anyone I have worked with in the past 90 days plus anyone who has requested to stay in the loop.
As a long time life coach specializing in relationships February is always an interesting and busy month. The highlight, Valentine’s Day, is an annual celebration held on February 14 generally acknowledged as a day to recognize and express affection for the significant people in our lives. Hallmark has indeed capitalized on the date and many individual expectations are thwarted and much disappoint abounds. My lines usually light up in February with questions and concerns about lover’s true intentions.
My tip for the month is drawn from the energy of the Lovers card in the tarot deck. Traditionally the Lovers card in a spread represents relationships and choices. Generally some decision about an existing relationship will have to be made. A temptation of the heart or a choice of potential partners will need to be thought through and decided upon. Most often a sacrifice will have to be made for a relationship to be gained. Whatever the choice it should not be taken lightly as the consequences will be long lasting.
In my experience the most frequent mistake made in relationships is that once we are in them we seem to be unable to accept the actions of the other. We fail to remember that all actions come from a sense of personal worth and do not always reflect the true feelings we have for the other. The hardest understanding to develop in an intimate relationship is mutual respect. So many times one partner interprets the behavior of the other as a reflection of their feelings, when in reality the behavior is a reflection of their learning. Many times the interpretation of the behavior in the initial phase of the relationship gets in the way of a long term involvement. One partner simply does not have the same goals and expectations as the other. Neither partner has the communication skills to constructively talk about it, so the relationship goes nowhere. The figures on the Lovers card in the tarot deck represent two equal partners in relationship:
The key in relationship is in finding common ground and balance. If you are in a relationship that is not satisfying your needs and you cannot find the time or space to communicate your needs to your partner the answer may be for you to move on. Respect yourself enough to know and understand that you are worthy of love. Love yourself first in order to love another. Treat yourself to a Valentine’s Day gift, a box of chocolate, a new pair of earrings, dinner and a movie with a friend. Loving and knowing yourself is the first step in loving another.
I am available this month on Sunday and Monday days, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and most other times by scheduled appointment. I am in the Central time zone and look forward to hearing from you.
Peace, Light and Love
